Wesley Forest- Wesley Forest Camp is owned and operated by the Susquehanna Conference, the United Methodist Church. The camp is located in western Union County about halfway between Lewisburg and State College.
The campsite is nestled at the base of White Mountain in the western end of Buffalo Valley, and adjacent to Penns Creek, famous for its excellent trout fishing waters. All meals are prepared by the friendly and accommodating Wesley Forest food service staff and served family style in a casual dining atmosphere.
Whether you'd like to schedule a relaxing or structured retreat, spend a great week at one of our Summer Camp events, or just enjoy some of the finest scenery in Pennsylvania, Wesley Forest Camp is the ideal place to be.
Reproduction of pictures taken in 1940 of the property of Mr. and Mrs. Chester K. and Agnes Robertson, Weikert, PA.
Mr. Paul Thomas of Thomas Studios, Shamokin, PA, photographer.
The buildings shown in the photos were built in 1938 and 1939. The huge logs needed for the cabins were harvested from the property. Natural timber was used to construct buildings as well as bridges.
The Cabin was a location where the Robertson's enteratained many prominent guests. The guests included doctors, lawyers, business people as well as actors and actresses from Hollywood and New York City.
Mr. and Mrs. Robertson used the cabin every summer until Mr. Robertson's untimely death. Mrs. Robertson returned to the Cabin only once after her husband's death, stayed for less than one hour, and decided she could not be there without C.K. SO she and the staff returned to Shamokin and never used the Cabin again.
When the Central Pennsylvania Conference bought the property, the purchase included everything as it was when Mrs. Robertson left years earlier. Some of the original furnishings, as shown in the pictures, can be found in the lodge today.
The original pictures were given to use because of my childhood affection and memories of the Cabin. These pictures have taken on great personal meaning as my wife and I and our children, Lynn, Todd, and Mark, have participated in camping programs at Wesley Forest. It is with great joy that we now see our grandchildren, Laura and Jennifer Boenzli, and great niece, Tanya Gehret, participating in these camping programs at such a beautiful location. Lifetime memories continue to grow from "The Cabin".
